IMS 2009 Attendee Communications

George Heiter, Co-Chair, IMS2009 Publications and Publicity Committee.

Efficient communication of information to the attendees both before and during the IMS is the guiding concern for every member of this year’s Committee. From the newly designed website, the Call for Papers, and the Advance Program to the on-site availability of both the Abstract Booklet and Print-on-Demand kiosks throughout the venue, attendees will have convenient access to all relevant information.

Thank you for your interest in the 2009 International Microwave Symposium (IMS): your coming to this page is an indication that you would like to learn more about our plans for the upcoming Conference. We feel that a critical objective of the Publications and Publicity Committee is to provide easily accessible and timely communications between the Conference and its prospective attendees. To accomplish this, we have assembled a committee of 35 members (see: http://ims2009.org/committee.html ) who are individually committed to support specific segments of this task.

We have redesigned the IMS2009 website for convenient navigation. We have also provided concise information for prospective authors and special event organizers in the hard-copy and electronic versions of the Call for Papers, while maintaining as much continuity as possible with earlier symposia.

Once the Technical Program Committee (TPC) completes the paper selection process (by the end of January 2009), we plan to assemble a Program Book, again in US letter size, which provides timely information to support attendees in making plans for their participation in the Microwave Week in Boston. This will include all of the general information in addition to the available technical program details on the IMS as well as the RFIC and ARFTG conferences. The anticipated publication date is March 2009.

When you arrive at the conference, we plan to provide you with an IMS2009 Proceedings CD containing all of the submitted Final Manuscripts of the presentations. The CD will also have a new navigation tool specifically designed for IMS2009 in cooperation with our CD vendor to make accessing information easier for attendees. In addition, we are planning for you to have access to individual papers of the IMS Technical Program using a number of Print-on-Demand (PoD) Kiosks, located throughout the Conference Center. The PoD Kiosks will allow you to print out individual papers, as found on the CD, similar to the demonstration kiosk we had provided during the 2008 IMS in Atlanta. We will not be providing wireless access to the Technical Program due to distribution limitations.

We also plan to publish an Abstract Book, in pocket format, containing the abstracts from the Final Manuscript submissions, organized by Session. We intend to make this Abstract Book available on the IMS2009 website as soon as it has been completed, i.e. prior to the opening of the Conference.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Steering Committee members. We look forward to greeting you at IMS2009 in Boston.
