Our Future Electrical Engineers and Our Future Leaders Cleo Alexander, IMS 2009 Student Volunteer Organizer
With less than 6 weeks until the start of IMS 2009 the Student Volunteer team is entering the home stretch. As part of the Virtual Participation program, students will record, edit and upload the sessions that will be offered to those who cannot attend in person through the IEEE website. Additionally we count on students to distribute and collect the feedback forms for all of the technical sessions and workshops. Given the full program for this year, this requires a very large student team. Of course the nature of these assignments results in the majority of our volunteers being able to participate in the technical program while fulfilling their volunteer commitment.

But unlike the latter two, MTT is the only show that is truly global and brings all levels of the microwave and RF world together for a few days. Sales, marketing, engineering, managers, execs, editors, PR — everyone is there and the show provides unique value for all. Where else and when else would you have a chance to get to know your customers and partners, and even the media who covers you all year, if not for IMS's exhibit floor, poster, panel and technical talks, not to mention a social venue here or there?

Visiting Boston
Getting Around in Bean-town
David Vye, 2009 Steering Committee
There is a common belief that the seemingly chaotic streets of Boston evolved from old cow paths. In actuality, many streets took their odd shape in order to avoid swamps and marshes. Early streets often followed shorelines that existed before the original Boston peninsula was expanded with landfill in the 19th century. Except for the Back Bay and part of South Boston, Boston has no street grid, which can be confusing for nonresident drivers. Roads change names and lose and add lanes seemingly at random. So what's the best way to get around?
