IMS Insider - MicroApps

As we pass rapidly by the Thanksgiving and head to the Christmas break, we’d like to bring to the attention of all of our marketing and new product introduction friends the 2009 MicroApps sessions. While most of the technologists have been busy getting their papers ready for submission to the Technical Committees and hoping for selection at the 2009 IMS Convention in Boston, now is the time for the marketing and new product teams to exercise their creative side and take advantage of the 2009 MicroApps sessions.

This rapidly expanding forum (with a high profile near the exhibition floor) provides a venue for exhibitors to gain further exposure for their company and new products. MicroApps purpose to to provide IMS attendees with useful, contemporary information on a broad variety of subjects. This benefit, exclusive to exhibitors only, provides access to a key user community in the comfortable and informal setting of the exhibition floor.

These sessions are intended to provide useful content in a more educational, tutorial fashion. Interactivity with the audience is encouraged. MicroApps also offers a much more flexible format in time, style and presentation format than the technical sessions. Some examples of variations possible include variable time-slots allotted for each talk (we will allow multiples of 20 minutes up to at least 1 hour) and the ability to incorporate hardware or other interactive features. In other words, use your imagination and let us know how you want to interact with the 15,000 engineers, managers and key decision makers we are making accessible!

Our goal is for participants to provide the kind of information that the average engineer can learn, take home and immediately apply to their day to day work. This practical approach provides great exposure for new products or measurement techniques. So, if you have something to say, we have a forum and listeners!

This year we are also inviting talks in time formats that are multiples of the traditional 20 minute talk. The more flexible and informal format of MicroApps makes it ideal to augment product displays, exhibitor space and the more formal traditional Technical Program talks and to allow more in-depth discussions of the technical and practical aspects of the products and technologies that are new and exciting. Some of the topics or areas in the past that have been highly received include:

  • New measurement techniques, enhancements and methodologies
  • New, improved or novel assembly, fabrication and integration approaches
  • Unique applications or applications that are enabled via a new or improved design
  • More in-depth discussion of simulation or design flows

As always, all attendees to IMS2009 will receive a CD with the MicroApps presentations.

We have requested that an abstract be submitted by December 15, 2008, but if there are extenuating circumstances, please send an e-mail to microapps@ims2009.org and explain your situation and when an abstract can be supplied and we will do whatever we can to accommodate.

So, before the snow starts to fly too thick, we’d like you to consider what new products, techniques or approaches deserve more exposure to our community by being the recipient of a 20 minute or more talk at the IMS 2009 MicroApps?
