Technical Program
The Technical Program Committee has met and made decisions on which papers to accept. We are in the process of finalizing the times and rooms for the presentation of the papers and will make this information available in a future edition of the Insider. In this issue we will describe the workshops and short course to be held at the Symposium. These have just as many attendees as the IMS technical program, but the workshops and short courses don’t always get the same publicity. Follow the link the get the “Inside” story on these important elements of the IMS.
This year we have refined the selection process for the acceptance of proposed workshops and short courses. Our goal is to foster the highest-possible quality workshops and to provide more information for attendees as they decide which workshops to attend. The process for bringing an IMS2009 Workshop to life began shortly after IMS2008. Interested organizers began formulating topics and identifying speakers for potential workshops. An initial workshop proposal was submitted in September and was reviewed by the Chairs of the MTT-S Technical Committees. Suggestions were made to fine tune the workshop content or to merge with other workshop proposals of similar content. The final workshop proposals were submitted in November and included not only the traditional abstract of the overall workshop, but also abstracts of the material to be presented from the proposed presenters in the workshop. These final proposals were reviewed and scored by members of the MTT-S Technical Committee. With these scores IMS2009 Steering Committee was able to make the decision of which workshops to accept.
IMS2009 Steering Committee also coordinated closely with the RFIC Symposium Technical Program Committee in the selection of the workshops for the RFIC Symposium. The goal of the coordination was to reduce duplication of topics and identify workshops that are appropriately jointly sponsored by IMS and RFIC.
In all 30 workshops and 5 short courses were accepted. The RFIC Symposium will have 11 total with 7 being full day and 4 being ½ day workshops. There are 3 joint RFIC-IMS workshops with 2 full day and 1 ½ day workshops. The IMS will have 15 workshops total with 11 full day and 4 ½ day format. And ARTTG with have 1 ½ day workshop. The abstracts for the workshops and short courses will be available on the IMS2009.org web site to help guide you in the decision of which workshops to attend. The full listing of workshops by day is given below.
In next month’s news letter, we will describe the technical and plenary sessions.
