Some 2009 IMS Program Book Notes.
By George Heiter, Co-chair, IMS2009 Publications and Publicity Committee

As has been customary for a number of years, the Program Book has been published in US Letter size format and contains information for the entire Microwave Week from 7 to 12 June 2009, although the banner claims: “2009 International Microwave Symposium” only. This misnomer of singling out one of the many events constituting “Microwave Week”, has also been perpetuated and the 2009 Editors did not dare break that tradition.

In designing the organization of the Book, we have retained the event matrix and maps on the inside cover pages for easy reference, but have reorganized the main book into 3 sections, distinguishable by the distinct page banner colors:

1) General Information Section, pages 1- 23 (teal color page banner),
2) Technical Programs Section, pages 24 -75
(maroon color page banner),
3) Special Programs Section, pages 76 - 80
(lime color page banner).

In deciding on contents and organization of each section, a precarious compromise has been made between providing the desired information while keeping the overall size of the Book as light as possible. As a result, we were able to keep the Book to 80 printed pages + cover.

In the General Information Section, we eliminated the steering committee picture gallery, incorporating it instead into the front matter of the Digest CD. In addition, we moved the organizational information for all 3 conferences (RFIC, IMS, ARFTG) to the front of the section, followed by the arrangements information for the week and included some historical notes.

The Technical Program Section is arranged essentially in chronological order, starting with the technical sessions of the RFIC on Monday, followed by IMS and ending with the ARFTG sessions on Friday. More detailed Workshop and Short Course descriptions are provided in the next part of this section. MicroApps and exhibitor information conclude the section.

For the convenience of attendee orientation, we have retained the single column per session format with individual paper times listed in the margins. In addition, the IMS technical sessions are color coded to indicate their assignments to one of the 4 focus tracks. Pointer icons are used to remind attendees of relevant related events.

The Special Programs Section is highlighting some special social events as well as providing the details of the various activities of our Guest Program.

We hope this publication will provide you with useful information in a convenient and easily accessible manner, helping you to make IMS 2009 a successful event.

See you in Boston!!
